Big Bass Boat: a beginner's guide to your first big catch

July 11, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

When I first loaded up Big Bass Boat I did what most people probably do — cast wildly, yanked the line the second something bit, and lost every decent fish for twenty minutes. The trick is patience. Watch the tension bar and let the fish tire itself out before you reel hard.

Your early money is best spent on line strength, not a fancier engine. A stronger line means you stop snapping off the bigger bass in deeper water, and those are the catches that actually pay for the rest of your upgrades. Speed comes later.

Learn to read the water. Certain spots on each lake reliably hold bigger fish, and once you find one, it's worth parking there for a few casts. The game gives subtle visual hints — ripples and shadows — that took me a while to trust.

My last tip: don't ignore the tackle box upgrade. Switching bait to match the fish you're targeting genuinely changes your bite rate. Big Bass Boat rewards small, smart adjustments far more than it rewards frantic tapping.

Play it slow, treat it like a wind-down game, and it'll click. This is one of the more relaxing sims we've reviewed this year.
