Big Bass Boat
Big Bass Boat is the kind of game I didn't expect to sink an evening into, but here we are. You start with a beat-up boat and a basic rod, and the whole loop is about drifting to a good spot, casting, and reading the tension bar as a fish takes the bait. The controls are simple: tap to cast, hold and tilt to fight the fish, release to reel in. It sounds thin on paper, but the timing has a nice rhythm once you learn how different fish pull.
Progression is where it hooked me. Money from your catches goes into a better engine, stronger line, or a wider tackle box, and each upgrade opens up new lakes with different fish behavior. The deeper waters demand patience — bigger bass will snap a weak line if you yank too early. I liked that the game never rushes you; you can just idle on the water and enjoy the sound design, which is surprisingly relaxing.
It's not a deep RPG and it doesn't pretend to be. But as a wind-down game on the couch, Big Bass Boat nails the loop of small goals and steady rewards. My only gripe is the map screen, which feels a little cramped on smaller phones.
